Please note: This training for social prescribers consists of 2 parts:
Part 1 – Physical Activity
Part 2- Motivational Interviewing.
This booking page is for Part 2 of the training course. Please book onto this session once you have booked onto Part 1.
Being active has never been more important, for our physical health and our mental wellbeing. As social prescribers you can play a crucial role in enabling people to become active and guiding them into local opportunities.
If you have ever tried to help someone become more active, you’ve probably realised that taking the expert role and telling the person what to do often does not work and usually leaves you feeling frustrated and the patient ambivalent. Motivational Interviewing is an alternative technique that will help to amend this reaction and will build your confidence and consultation skills.
The aim of this 2-part course is for you to feel more comfortable about offering supportive and motivational conversations with patients about becoming more active, how they may change from being inactive, form goal related plans and boost their faith in their own ability to succeed. These same skills can be applied to all aspects of behaviour change beyond physical activity.
Part 2: Motivational Interviewing (90 minutes)
Before this session you’ll be sent a 30-minute video to introduce motivational interviewing and core concepts pre-recorded by the trainer. In this session we’ll cover motivational interviewing conversations.
