External – Dermatology Update

Primary care nurses (and pharmacists) who wish to update knowledge on dermatology care, including evidence-based practice and recent national and local guidance. You will see the programme moves you through from knowledge and guidance/guidelines updates to patient and practical aspects to then seeing how you can incorporate this knowledge into practice at a local level. The new skills you will learn will enhance patient care and may reduce secondary care referral. A good day for GPs and PNs already working in this area.


The dermatology update will be in partnership with Julie Van Onselen, Dermatology Education Partnership Ltd. Julie works as a dermatology educator and medical writer at DEP Ltd and for other training companies, such as BBO. She is an on-line lecturer at the University of Stirling for undergraduate and masters HCP dermatology modules. She publishes widely in professional and health care journals; she is past editor of Dermatological Nursing. Julie works on national projects, such as the Psoriasis Setting Priorities Partnership project and RCGP dermatology Spotlight project, as well as being a special adviser to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Skin She works clinically once a week and her current clinical post is with Check4Cancer Ltd, Skin Health UK, running skin cancer detection and awareness clinics; in the past she was a nurse practitioner in primary care (eczema, psoriasis and acne nurse-led clinics. Julie is passionate about improving care and support for people with skin conditions through developing educational initiatives for both healthcare professionals and patients throughout the UK.
